Domain Name is a readable address used to access websites on internet. It consists of a Top-Level Domain (TLD) such as ‘.com’ or ‘.org’ and a second level domain, which is its specific name such as your desired name. It is translated from numeric IP addresses to alphabets for readability and memorization. Hence, the ‘Domain Name System’ translates the domain name typed into the search engine into the corresponding numeric IP leading it to the desired address.
The ‘Domain Name System’ (DNS) was first introduced in 1983, whereas, the first registered domain name, ‘symbolics.com’ was registered on 1985 and the first domain name under ‘.in’ was introduced during early 1990s exclusively allocated to education institutions.
Domain name acts as an online identity for a business, establishing its credibility and hence boosting its awareness. Domain name also initiates originality for the brand, hence giving an opportunity to businesses for scaling themselves. Domain names, being simple to memorize can also increase marketability which complex URLs or IPs cannot achieve.
